Beauty Tips

ROSACEAis one of the most common things we receive enquiries about at Amara Essence. It seems that a lot of people suffer from it and want to know if we have any tips to help care, control and cover it up. And, guess what you’ve come to the right place because we do! It can sometimes feel a bit challenging caring for rosacea but there are lots of things you can do to help your skin. Keep reading to find out how!

SUN SCREEN, and that’s all y...ear round not just in summer! Remember to give yourself a daily dose of sunscreen, rosacea-prone skin can get very irritated and flare up from sun exposure. Choose a sunscreen that doesn’t contain any alcohol or fragrances and offers broad spectrum protection to shield your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Sunscreen will also help to prevent ageing skin so that's a double whammy of goodness!

GENTLY DOES IT...The first rule in rosacea skin care tips is to treat your skin with a whole lot of TLC. The way you care for your skin makes a huge difference in how your skin looks! This is true for most skin types but especially true for those with rosacea. Scrubbing or harshly rubbing your skin can aggravate your skin so it’s imperative that you use gentle skin care methods and always wash your face with lukewarm water.

TONE WITH CARE....Astringents, exfoliants and toners should not be part of your Rosacea skin care routine! These products often contain ingredients that can be harsh and have the potential to irritate your skin. Common skin care ingredients to avoid are menthol, salicylic acid, peppermint and witch hazel.

GENTLE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS...One of the worthwhile tips for rosacea that can’t be stressed enough is to use gentle skin care products. This means that it’s important to be gentle in washing and applying skin care products on your face. You’ve also got to use only the mildest, fragrance-free products to soothe your skin’s sensitive state. Here at Amara Essence we promote DARPHIN products for rosacea prone skin. Summer is right around the corner and with summer comes bikini ready skin! If your not prepared, then take a look at these tips to get you started.  Remember too, if you find it all too daunting to do yourself, AMARA ESSENCE has fantastic treatments to help you out!

EXFOLIATE!   A lot of women forget that exfoliating your skin removes all of the dead cells leaving your skin soft and clear!  And not just your face, did you ever think about exfoliating your stomach, arms and legs – it really makes skin glow and shine.

HAIR REMOVAL!  One of the biggest rushes for most people when working on getting their skin ready for a swimsuit is hair removal.; they want to do it as quickly as possible. So, that's why taking your time with your hair removal is the first bikini ready skin tip! When you take your time, you won't end up with razor burns and you'll also end up with softer hair.  Of course, it’s much better to have a wax treatment!

TANNING!  Before you hit the sand, you might want to consider giving yourself a little bit of a tan. A tinted moisturiser helps skin gradually become more tanned, versus using a self tanner that will make you instantly darker and can streak.

FEET!  One thing that you may forget when you are trying to get your skin bikini ready is your feet. Don't do that! Your feet need to be scrubbed, exfoliated and moisturized too! For me, I use a pumice stone and lotion them every single night with a foot balm. This keeps heels beautiful and arches looking awesome!

ACNE CLEARING BODY WASH!  Do you have acne/spots all over your back or arms?  Knock that acne out with an acne fighting body wash.  Don’t use your typical face/body wash, instead find one that has some awesome acne clearing properties inside.  Or come along to AMARA ESSENCE for a cleansing back treatment and let us help you get ready for that Bikini?

I'm sure there are many of you out there like me, who have loads of half used lipsticks. Why not save some space and money and make a new colour from all your oldies? Get a small container with a lid, round or otherwise. Scoop out your old lipsticks into a microwaveable dish and melt in the microwave, mix then pour into your small container and leave to set.  Mix whatever colours you like - experiment! This uses up your old lipstick and gives you a brand new colour to try.!

                                                    BEAUTY TIP...... EYELID EXERCISE

Muscles of the face can be re-trained like any other muscles to become firmer and strong again.

With just 10 - 15 minutes of exercising each day, eyelids will be stronger and lifted.

1. Look straight ahead into the mirror throughout this exercise.
2. Curve index fingers under eyebrows then raise your eyebrows and hold against the bone.
3. Close lids and str...etch upper eyelids downwards in 5 small movements.
4. Hold for a count of 6
5. Release the squeeze slowly in 3 counts.
6. Open lids, Relax, Breathe.
7. Repeat once more.

*Alternatively place 4 fingers of each hand just under the line of eyebrows and proceed as above.

Exercises are done twice, once a day, 5 days a week. Choose a time when you are not tired. Effects take time, but that melting wax feeling when you are tired will be gone - this can happen in the first few weeks. After this you should see an improvement in the contour of your eyes week by week. Over the next 4 -6 months you will see a marked improvement.

HOW TO CARE FOR THE SKIN AROUND YOUR EYES.

The skin around our eye area is VERY different from the rest of our face, for starters, it’s a lot more delicate. And if you aren’t too familiar with the specifics about skin in this area, here is some great info for you! Read more about how to properly care for the skin around your eyes and make sure you always look your best.

The skin around your eyes is not only the thinnest skin on your face, but it’s also the most sensitive and driest. It’s the first place to show signs of aging and irritation from using the wrong products so be very cautious in caring for the skin around your eyes.

CLEANSE : Ensure you are gentle. We’re often reminded to use our ring fingers when applying eye cream to be gentle and the same logic applies to cleansing. If you’re using an eye makeup remover, don’t tug or rub back and forth.  Apply cleanser on a cotton pad and rest it lightly on the eyelid .Do this so that it has a chance to work its way through the products and then gently swipe off.

MOISTURISE : Even though it might seem like a good idea to use your facial moisturiser on your eye area, it really isn’t. Your eye area has a totally different makeup than the rest of your face making a separate and dedicated moisturiser for the area necessary. The skin around your eyes has no oil glands so moisturising it with a high-quality eye cream is crucial. Look for eye creams that are not only hydrating but also address other eye skin care concerns you might have like lines or dark circles.

GLOSSY EYES : Caring for the skin under eyes also includes the eyelid area. If you have oily eyelids it can make wearing eye makeup a pain and a build-up of debris and oils can cause irritated eyeballs. If you have oily eyelids despite using primer, consider using the combo of witch hazel and Milk of Magnesia. Apply a small amount of witch hazel on a cotton ball, apply it your lids and let it dry, making sure your eyelids remain closed the entire time. Then, do the same with Milk of Magnesia, again making sure your eyes remain closed. This combo should rid your eyelid of oils create a nice clean canvas to apply makeup.

SUPPLEMENT : How to care for skin around eyes also involves applying and taking in the right supplements. Vitamins like A, B-complex, C, D, E and beta-carotene are all important to keeping the skin around eyes looking youthful and smooth. Look for eye creams that contain these essential vitamins, pop a multi-vitamin to supplement your healthy meals and strive to always eat a balanced diet!

SLEEP : Sleep is important for facial skin care but is even more significant for eye skin care. Insufficient sleep can cause bloodshot eyes, dark circles, under eye bags and make us look worn-out. The eye area is the first to tattle on us for not getting enough sleep, being too rough on our skin and not properly caring for our eye skin area. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep each night to not only look vivacious and full of life but to feel good too!

HYDRATE : Another tip on how to care for skin around eyes is to stay hydrated. As you may have heard, water plays a major role in how our skin looks and feels. Hydrated skin looks supple and smooth whereas dehydrated skin can look dried out, scaly and look aged. Also, avoid salty foods, caffeinated beverages and alcohol to avoid accidental dehydration of the skin!
